The Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival (RGWF) Steering Committee is seeking artwork to be used to create a poster commemorating the upcoming 2012 RGWF this June.
Artists will retain ownership of their artwork but will grant the RGWF the exclusive right to use the art on posters to be sold in advance of and at the Festival on June 22nd and 23rd.
Proceeds from the sale of posters will benefit the continued expansion of the Whitewater Park and river restoration, as well as the programs of the Recreation District and Fremont Community Foundation.
The contest, generously sponsored by Pizza Madness, is open to everyone. There is no fee to enter and all mediums of art will be considered.
Artwork, with the artist’s bio, must be delivered to the Cañon City Area Recreation District offices at 575 Ash Street, Cañon City, no later than Monday, May 16th.
The Steering Committee will select the artwork that best captures the spirit of the RGWF.
The winning artist will receive $250 and an opportunity to have the original artwork displayed for sale at the Festival.

Here is a fresh video of the Whitewater Adventure Race 2011 to get you all pumped for WAR 2012!
This event is run in two divisions, competitive and citizen. Both divisions will begin at Veterans Park. The competitive wave will run along the Arkansas Riverwalk trail to the Ropes Course. The participants will complete 3 lower elements at the Course, which may include walking the plank, shimmying across wire, and scaling a rock wall. They will then get back onto the trail continuing to Centennial Park where they will enter the obstacle course, consisting of approximately ten obstacles. The runners will go through the obstacles and finish with a slip ‘n slide into home plate at the baseball field. The citizen division will run from Veterans Park to Centennial Park and only complete the obstacle course, removing the 5K run from this wave. This is a timed event for the competitive division and completes the 3rd leg of the triathlon.
